Memory and the Responsibility of Love in Spiritual Traditions
As part of “Torino Spiritualità”, the Interfaith Committee of the City of Turin hosted an event on Thursday, October 15, at the “Circolo dei Lettori”. Memory and the Responsibility of Love in Spiritual Traditions: a dialogue between different faiths and traditions, aimed at rediscovering the value of care, compassion, and mutual responsibility—reminding us that to live also means to safeguard and give back what we have received.
Below, we publish the speech by Rabbi Ariel Finzi, delivered while on stage alongside Imam Walid Bouchnaf:
_______________
Good morning, everyone.
Today’s theme—the memory and responsibility of love—invites us, first and foremost, to reflect on a fundamental question: “How does our past influence our present and our future?”
Each of us possesses a kind of “genetic heritage,” bequeathed to us by those who raised and educated us, as well as by the world into which we were born and in which we have lived.
Before us, there were people who loved us, cared for us, and passed on to us a language, a history, values, and a sense of hope.
