On Thursday, October 15, a meeting titled “Unfaithful to Oneself: Rewriting a Book 40 Years Later” was held at the Jewish Community’s Social Center. The event was dedicated to the presentation of a new, updated edition of the book “In the Foreign Night: The Jews of Saint-Martin-Vésubie” (*Nella notte straniera – Gli ebrei di Saint-Martin-Vésubie*) by Alberto Cavaglion.
The event was introduced by Sandra Reberschak, an active member of ADEI, who presented the author and explained the origins of the meeting’s evocative title, as well as the underlying motivations and historiographical necessity that led to this new edition of a work first published in the 1980s.
Following this, Alberto Cavaglion discussed the contents of the book with historian and friend Paolo Veziano. Their conversation revisited a crucial chapter of the Second World War, enriched by new research and historical reflections. A particularly striking moment involved the presentation of previously unpublished material: Cavaglion shared a rare photograph of the village of Saint-Martin-Vésubie taken in 1943, alongside archival documents that did not appear in the original version of the book.
The audience followed the discussion with great attention, showing a deep interest in both the subject matter and the backstory behind the creation of this new edition.
The cultural event—compelling from both a historical and a human perspective—concluded with an aperitif, which allowed for further conversation in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
