PRESS RELEASE UCEI
Rome, May 26, 2026
The Union of Italian Jewish Communities expresses strong concern and profound opposition to the decision by the Rome Pride organizing committee to exclude Keshet Italia, a Jewish LGBTQIA+ association, from the upcoming June 20th event.
This decision sparks strong dissent because it risks making the participation of Jewish citizens and associations dependent on prior adherence to specific political positions and interpretations of international events, which are still only presumed and far from proven. Such an approach appears to conflict with the principles of pluralism, inclusion, and freedom of expression that form the very foundation of Pride events.
No one should be required to pass an ideological test to participate in a space created with the goal of inclusion, guaranteeing dignity and rights to all people, regardless of their identity, affiliation, or origin.
Pride events were created to include, not to exclude.
