On Friday 23 October, a ceremony will pay homage to an important figure in Turin’s cultural, political and community life.

The City of Turin will dedicate a garden to Giorgina Arian Levi (1910–2011)—a teacher, member of parliament, essayist, and a prominent figure in the life of Turin’s Jewish community. The naming ceremony will take place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., at the corner of Via Revello and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, and will be attended by city officials.
Born in Turin into a Jewish family, Giorgina Levi earned a degree in the humanities and began her teaching career at the Gioberti high school. In 1939, following the enactment of the racial laws, she was forced to leave Italy with her husband, Heinz Arian, and relocate to Bolivia, where she continued to teach. Upon returning to Turin in 1946, she resumed her work in education, while also engaging in cultural and political pursuits.
Serving as a city councilor from 1957 to 1964 and later as a member of parliament, she focused particularly on issues concerning schools, vocational training, and the rights of working students. Deeply connected to the Jewish community in Turin, she founded the magazine *Ha Keillah* in 1975—which she edited for many years—and contributed to the study of the history of Italian Jewry.
In 2010, at the age of one hundred, she was awarded the Civic Seal (*Sigillo Civico*) by the City of Turin in recognition of her civic and cultural contributions.
The dedication of this garden serves to keep alive the memory of a woman who lived through the 20th century with a steadfast commitment to teaching, democratic participation, and dialogue with younger generations.
The ceremony is sponsored by Mayor Stefano Lo Russo and the President of the City Council, Maria Grazia Grippo.
