MEIS, via Piangipane 81, Ferrara

Thursday 06.11.2025 17:30

On the occasion of the exhibition “Journey to Italy. Discovering Jewish Cultural Heritage” the MEIS is offering a series of free events, “Shots of History” in its bookshop (Via Piangipane 81, Ferrara): lectures dedicated to the great masters of photography who, through their lenses, have captured crucial moments in Italian and international history and social change.
The protagonists of the first event, on November 6th at 5:30 pm, are Robert Capa and Gerda Taro. Monica Poggi, curator with Walter Guadagnini of the exhibition and the Camera catalog “Robert Capa Gerda Taro. Photography, Love, War” (Dario Cimorelli Editore), will tell their story: a journey through the extraordinary lives of two photographers united by love who documented the wars of the 20th century with an unmistakable eye.
The story of Capa and Taro is one of the most famous and tormented love and talent stories of the 20th century: she fled Nazi Germany, he emigrated from Hungary, Gerta Pohorylle and Endre—later Frenchified as André—Friedmann (these were their real names) met in Paris in 1934, and the following year they fell in love, forging a professional and romantic partnership that led them to engage in photography and political struggle.
Reservations are strongly recommended by calling +39 342 5476621 (open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm) or by emailing eventi.meis@orologionetwork.it.

The meetings, organized in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary History of Ferrara, are free and will continue into 2026.
