On Tuesday, March 31st, at 5:30 PM, in the Sala Igea of the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia, a debate will be held on the topic “The Protection of the Secularity of the State while Respecting Religious Plurality” during the presentation of the book Every Man in the Image of God (Treccani Libri, 2025).
This volume pays homage to the Italian Constitution, paying particular attention to the principle of equality, enshrined in Article 3. With an interdisciplinary and international perspective and in an imaginative dialogue, each of the essays analyzes specific interpretations and implications of this principle. The ethical and philosophical reflections, while highlighting the need for an inescapable connection between equality and diversity, also address contemporary times and the challenges they pose. What is the meaning of equality today? How can Article 3 guide our country’s political, cultural, economic, and social choices? What obstacles must be removed and what resources must be developed to ensure that this principle is implemented with substantial, rather than merely formal, validity?
These questions are also addressed from the perspective of Jewish culture, ethics, history, and experience, as evidence of the contribution Jews have always made to the societies in which they live.
After the institutional greetings, the following speakers will be: Giuliano Amato, Giancarlo Bosetti, Lucia Corso, and a representative of the Ministry of the Interior. The curators will be present.

Admission is free, but registration is recommended by writing to salaigea@treccani.it
