Il piccolo nucleo era in particolare dedito all\u2019<b>attivit\u00e0 di prestito e al commercio<\/b> e, pi\u00f9 tardi, pot\u00e9 dedicarsi anche all\u2019<b>arte dell\u2019oreficeria.<\/b> Nel 1723 il re Vittorio Amedeo II estese a tutto il Piemonte l\u2019obbligo del ghetto, sino a quel momento istituito solo a Torino. Al gruppo ebraico di Carmagnola fu destinata l\u2019Isola delle Cerchie, fra le attuali vie Bertini, Cherche, Benso e Baldessano. Il ghetto sorgeva in posizione centrale ma esterna ai percorsi delle processioni cattoliche e leggermente defilato rispetto alla principale zona commerciale, dove la comunit\u00e0 si era in origine stabilita e avrebbe desiderato mantenere la propria residenza.<br \/>\nSi trattava di un <b>piccolo gruppo di famiglie<\/b> che aument\u00f2 di poche unit\u00e0 all\u2019arrivo, nel 1737, degli ebrei di Racconigi, trasferiti nel ghetto di Carmagnola perch\u00e9 in numero troppo esiguo per poter costituire una comunit\u00e0 autonoma. Con l\u2019Emancipazione del 1848 ebbe inizio un progressivo spostamento verso i centri maggiori che ha gradualmente portato la comunit\u00e0 di Carmagnola a estinguersi. Alla Comunit\u00e0 ebraica di Torino rimane l\u2019edificio della sinagoga sito via Bertini 8, oggi magnificamente restaurato.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"align-self: center;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-bottom:40px;width:100%;\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-three\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-color2);--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:30px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:30px;\"><h3 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography2-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography2-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography2-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography2-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography2-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:30;line-height:var(--awb-typography2-line-height);\">The Sinagogue<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p style=\"font-size: 18px;\" data-asw-org-font-size=\"18\">A representative example of a Piedmontese synagogue from the ghetto era, it is located <b>on the top floor of a building without any external features that betray its presence.<\/b> The interior is a jewel of <g id=\"gid_1\">Piedmontese Baroque architecture<\/g>; functional and decorative elements are designed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. In keeping with Piedmontese tradition, the hall has a central plan centered on the splendid lacquered wooden canopied tevah, dating to 1766. On the eastern wall is an aron hakodesh in a matching style and equally richly decorated, particularly on the inside of the doors, which feature symbolic representations of the Jerusalem Sanctuary and its furnishings. A single continuous bench for the public runs along the four sides. Elements of both ornamental and commemorative value are the numerous cartouches painted on the plaster, whose poetic verses conceal dates of events and names of donors who contributed to the synagogue&#8217;s construction.     <\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-sep-none fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-four\" style=\"--awb-text-color:var(--awb-color2);--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:30px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;--awb-font-size:20px;\"><h4 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" style=\"font-family:var(--awb-typography2-font-family);font-weight:var(--awb-typography2-font-weight);font-style:var(--awb-typography2-font-style);margin:0;letter-spacing:var(--awb-typography2-letter-spacing);text-transform:var(--awb-typography2-text-transform);font-size:1em;--fontSize:20;--minFontSize:20;line-height:var(--awb-typography2-line-height);\">The exhibition \u201cWords, images, objects and architecture of the Piedmontese synagogues\u201d<\/h4><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p style=\"font-size: 18px;\" data-asw-org-font-size=\"18\">A small yet significant permanent exhibition has been set up in rooms on the ground floor, where the new entrance to the synagogue is located. Important restoration works in Carmagnola have provided <g id=\"gid_0\">the perfect opportunity for an overview of the main architectonic characteristics of existing synagogues in Piedmont<\/g>; conservation conditions and current state of restoration works executed to date are documented by charts and models.<x id=\"gid_1\"><\/x>The exhibition also includes a <g id=\"gid_2\">small selection of traditional objects <\/g>with the aim of illustrating some fundamental aspects of Jewish life to less expert visitors.<br \/>The exhibition represents an introduction to a visit to <b>the synagogue<\/b> as well as part of a more extensive route encompassing the entire network of synagogues in Piedmont.  <\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"awb-gallery-wrapper awb-gallery-wrapper-1 Cemetery<\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-4\"><p style=\"font-size: 18px;\" data-asw-org-font-size=\"18\">The <b>earliest burial area<\/b> used by the Jews of Carmagnola is documented <b>from 1599<\/b> in the area of Zucchetta, located behind the church of Sant\u2019Agostino. Successive urban expansion has since rendered the area an integral part of the city\u2019s urban fabric and today no visible trace remains of the old cemetery.<br \/>\nIn<b> 1863<\/b> the Jewish cemetery became <b>an independent sector<\/b> of the municipal cemetery. It is a small plot of land with triangular layout with simple in-ground graves and a few, more monumental family tombs located along the perimeter wall. The grave of a partisan commander, former captain of the Alpini, is a reminder of the contribution of many Jews in the Partisan struggle for liberation.   <\/p>\n<\/div><div
