\nA holiday established in commemoration of the miracle that led to the salvation of the Jews from Haman’s planned extermination, as recounted in the Book of Esther (fifth century BCE).
\nFundamental rules to be observed on Purim:
\na) Reading the Megillah of Esther (evening and morning)
\nb) Making donations to at least two needy people (mattanot laevionim)
\nc) Sending at least two items of food to friends or relatives (mishloach manot)
\nd) Celebrating the Purim feast (seudat Purim)
