And before the collective conscience of the world, before the eyes of all humanity, we can retrace, step by step, the circles of a hell, that of Treblinka, compared to which Dante’s Inferno is an innocent joke of Satan.” So wrote Vasily Grossman, a war correspondent for the Red Army, in 1944, after the liberation of the Treblinka camp, the most terrible Nazi death machine.
