The school was founded to accommodate Ferrarese Jewish children expelled from their classes after the racial laws, and some of the city’s most famous anti-fascists taught in its classrooms.
Writer Giorgio Bassani; activist and future psychologist Matilde Bassani; and former boxer Primo Lampronti, a promising athlete, were some of the teachers who taught the few students the key concepts of the curriculum, along with ethical teachings of freedom, dignity, and democracy.
After class, the three shared a parallel activity: that of anti-fascists committed to countering and resisting the ever-growing wave of hatred.
The tour will begin at the MEIS, the site of the former prison on Via Piangipane, where numerous anti-fascists (including Giorgio and Matilde Bassani) were imprisoned. It will then walk through the city, reconstructing the story of the three teachers. At each stop, a different guest will share a piece of the story: we will meet Anna Maria Quarzi, President of the Institute of Contemporary History and author of the famous interview with Matilde Bassani; Marcello Azzi of the Giorgio Bassani Foundation; and the students of the 5th N class of the A. Roiti High School in Ferrara, who have carefully and lovingly reconstructed the story of Primo Lampronti this school year.
The walk is organized in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary History and the Giorgio Bassani Foundation.

FREE EVENT.
