We are shocked to receive the news from Sydney about the shooting during the lighting of Hanukkah at a community event. First of all, our heartfelt condolences go to the local Jewish community, the families of the victims, and the injured. Our grief turns to anger at the thought of so many appeals to stem hatred and violence, warning that danger is within our cities. A massacre—because that’s the right word—for which national and local leaders are responsible, along with the selective media and press, who indulge anti-Israeli and Jewish hatred by conforming to the narratives of Hamas and Propal propaganda, which legitimize streets and classrooms where crime is celebrated, abusing every right and freedom. We reiterate the urgent need for laws to stem the predicted massacres and the dangers that are underestimated, even here in Italy, by those who give space to minds that have chosen to extinguish the light of reason. Tonight, we will light the Hanukkah lights in our homes and squares, even more conscious of our historic and future mission to defend the true essence of constitutional freedoms and the Jewish people. and for Israel to live in peace and security.”
