On the occasion of Archivissima 2026, with the theme “What Isn’t There,” the 1563 Foundation presents a new edition of two writings by Mila Momigliano, collected in the volume “Il libro spezzato”: a diary and a story, from which emerge faces, friendships, family connections, and community dynamics, linked to the Jewish school in Turin and the resistance experience of young Mila and her friends.
As often happens with subjective writings, Mila’s diary contains intimate thoughts and personal reflections, the desires and doubts of a girl who, in dark times, as a Jew, tries to live her normal life. Through pages filled with emotions and events, torn pages, and words left unfinished, Mila Momigliano’s writings, preserved at the Istoreto in Turin, convey, as the author herself suggests, not only events but also the description of an atmosphere that, despite the intensity of the feelings that permeate it, can fade with time.
The edition, edited by Victoria Musiolek, enriches the Fondazione 1563’s digital project “Le Vite,” in which biographical profiles of those who suffered the violence of the denial of rights are outlined starting from archival documents.
Speakers: Alberto Cavaglion, University of Florence; Dario Disegni, Jewish Community of Turin; Laura Fornara, 1563 Foundation for Art and Culture; Victoria Musiolek, Gaetano Salvemini Foundation for Historical Studies.
With readings from the diary of Mila Momigliano.
The event poster is available.
